This Privacy Policy explains what information onNext Media LLC ("onNext," "we," "us," or "our") collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to the onNext apps for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, the onNext widgets, Siri and other voice assistant features, and onnext.com (together, "the Service").
The short version: onNext is a social app, so some of what you do is visible to other people. You choose how much with your privacy setting. We use your information to run and personalize onNext. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't show ads.
Information You Give Us
- Account details: your first and last name, username, email address, profile photo (optional), and streaming region. If you sign in with a password, we store it securely in hashed form.
- Your library: shows, movies and books you save, episodes you've watched, ratings, Obsessed picks, reading progress and notes, and lists.
- Your taste: your Sign quiz answers and feedback you give on recommendations, such as "more like this."
- What you post and send: reviews, Features, messages, chatroom posts, club posts and poll votes, suggestions, reactions and likes.
- Imports: if you import your history from another service (such as TV Time, Letterboxd, IMDb or Goodreads), the titles and ratings in that file.
- Messages to us: what you send through our contact form, feedback, and reports you file about content or users.
Information Collected Automatically
- How you use onNext: screens you view, buttons you tap, searches you make, titles you open, and when you use the app. We use this to improve onNext and to personalize your recommendations.
- Device information: your device type and platform, timezone, and push notification tokens.
- Approximate location: we estimate your city, region and country from your IP address and timezone. We use this to show the right streaming services and air times, local weather, and friend suggestions near you. We don't use GPS or your precise location, and we don't show your city to other users.
- How you found us: the website or campaign that referred you, or the friend's invite link you used.
- Storage on your device: we keep your sign-in session, recent searches and app settings on your device. On Apple devices, some of your lineup and friend activity is stored on the device so widgets, Apple Watch and Siri can show it. onNext doesn't use advertising cookies or trackers.
Information from Others
- Sign in with Apple or Google: your name and email address, and from Google, your profile photo.
- Other users: friends may send you suggestions and messages, invite you, or add you to a club or chat.
onNext does not access your phone's contacts. If you ask Siri to send a recommendation to someone in your contacts, the message is prepared on your device and is not uploaded to onNext.
How We Use Your Information
- To run onNext, including your watchlist, calendar, reminders, widgets, and syncing across your devices
- To personalize onNext, including recommendations, your TastePrint, Sign and SyncScore, and the Spotlight feed
- To power the social features: showing your activity to friends, delivering messages, and suggesting people to follow
- To send notifications and emails, such as new episodes, friend activity, and the weekly onDeck email
- To keep onNext safe: reviewing reports, enforcing our Terms of Use, and preventing abuse and fraud
- To understand how onNext is used, fix problems, and improve it
- To comply with the law
AI features. onNext uses artificial intelligence in a few places. To write the "About You" summary on your profile, we send your first name and a summary of your taste (the titles and books you've saved, rated or loved, the people you follow, and your TastePrint) to our AI provider, Anthropic. Anthropic processes this only to generate the summary for us and doesn't use it to train its models. Other AI features in onNext, like where-to-watch lookups and title descriptions, work on catalog information, not your personal information.
What Other People Can See
Always visible: your name, username and profile photo. Anyone can find you in search, and your profile link (onnext.com/@username) shows these to anyone, including people without an onNext account.
Your activity (what you're watching and reading, ratings, Obsessed picks, Hall of Fame, Features and your Sign) depends on your privacy setting:
- Public (the default): anyone can see your activity and follow you.
- Standard: only people you've approved as followers can see your activity.
- Private: your activity is visible only to you. People can still find your name and photo and request to follow you.
What you post and send: messages are visible to the people you send them to. Chatroom posts are visible to anyone in that chatroom. Club posts are visible to club members. Share cards and invite links you create show your name to whoever you share them with. Your friends may see your activity in their widgets and on their Apple Watch.
How We Share Information
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers. We share it only in these cases:

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or download your personal information, to object to or restrict certain uses of it, and to withdraw consent you've given. You can do most of this in the app. For anything else, contact us. We'll respond within the time required by law and won't treat you differently for exercising your rights. We may need to verify your identity first.
European Economic Area and United Kingdom: we process your information to provide the Service you asked for (contract), for our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving onNext, with your consent (for example, push notifications), and to meet legal obligations. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
California and other US states: we don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don't use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
